The City of Saint Louis is pushing major district revitalization efforts driven by new state legislation and local committees. While the city’s focus has leaned more towards Northside neighborhoods, many other local districts have taken it upon themselves to transform the image of their own neighborhoods while highlighting their unique history. One such neighborhood is Holly Hills in South Saint Louis City.
In 2025 we worked with Ten8 Design Group and the Holly Hills Special Business District to fabricate and install unique entry markers and light pole banners for the neighborhood. Holly Hills has a rich history of using stained glass in residential homes dating back to the early 20th century. The goal of this project was to capture that look and feel while using more modern and versatile materials that would withstand the exterior elements. Throughout the design process, we presented multiple options and worked with the clients to best capture their vision while keeping costs within budget.
After several months of collaboration, we had the pleasure of installing 47 light pole banners and 4 unique entry markers. The light pole banners utilized 2 different designs that were alternated along primary neighborhood roads that serve as a boundary to the Holly Hills district. The entry markers were each their own unique design and were placed at 4 major entry points to the neighborhood.
This project has been such a fun and unique experience for the team at Excel Signs & Design. It is always exciting when our signage can serve as more than a tool for marketing. This project serves a bigger purpose and appears as more of an artistic addition to a neighborhood already known for its artesian history. We are proud to showcase these signs as landmarks that will welcome residents and visitors for years to come.
